DESCRIPTION:Universal Design/Build presents a shift in the approach to residential design and construction. Comfort and convenience regardless of age, stature or ability is the hallmark of inclusive design. Designers suppliers, builders, remodelers, social and health service providers will benefit from the creative design concepts and practices presented to develop market-driven projects that have broad aesthetic appeal as well as the necessary functional attributes. Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) courses are not a prerequisite and CAPS will find benefit by expanding into the broader spectrum of universal design that offers a much wider target audience.\nAs a graduate of this course, you will be able to:\nDescribe the significance of integrating UD concepts in residential construction\nDistinguish between accessibility solutions and UD solutions\nDescribe ways that design can be both functional and attractive\nIdentify and implement solutions for simple and complex scenarios that address various\nhousehold compositions, budgets and changing needs of clients\nUse effective marketing and communication strategies throughout the process\nLocate resources, products, materials and services\nThis course provides 12 hours of continuing education credits for these NAHB certifications:\nCAPS, CGA, CGB, CGP, CGR, CMP, CSP, GMB, GMR, Master CGP, Master CSP and MIRM.\nInstructor: Tag Gilkeson, CAPS, CGA, CGB, CGP, CGR, CMP, CSP, GMB, Master CGP, Master CSP\nTag Gilkeson has been in the Real Estate and construction industry for over 20 years.  He has focused on increasing his skills through education for the last two decades. This has culminated with him having completed three college degrees which include two within this industry. He has one for Construction Management and another one in Architectural Drafting and Design.  His learning didn’t just stop there, he attained more designations through the NAHB than anyone in the entire country, 11 in total.\nTag, along with his Architectural Design Firm, have been recognized both locally and nationally. In 2018 his company, Tag & Associates, LLC, was awarded the “Best Curb Appeal in the 1 Million to 1.5 Million Dollar” category by the Dallas Builders Association ARC Awards. He now designs homes in all price ranges and various square footages with his largest exceeding 15,000 square feet. \n
