Alaina is the founder and former CEO of Garman Homes. Known for her award winning blog, Build Like a Girl, Alaina is passionate about the role of marginalized voices in homebuilding. Alaina is an alum of Professional Builder Magazine’s list of 40 Under 40. Raleigh Magazine included her as one of 19 women Shaping the Future of Raleigh and in 2024 the Women in Residential + Commercial Construction Conference named her Woman of the Year. Alaina served as Chair for the Residential Neighborhood Development Council for the Urban Land Institute. She built the Concept Home for the America at Home Study in 2021 in just 60 days amidst the industry’s worst supply chain crisis. Alaina’s work has been featured in Forbes, USA Today, ProBuilder, and Builder Magazine as well as broadcast on both CNNBusiness and FoxBusiness. Alaina is known for candidly sharing deeply personal stories of struggle and triumph in the hopes of empowering and inspiring others. She is currently writing a book about the experience of building her dream home, BoDean, named for her childhood blanket. Her book will document her experience of creating space for her multigenerational blended family where everyone feels loved, accepted and safe to be exactly who they were always meant to be.
