Course Overview:
As electricity demand grows—fueled by electric vehicles and all-electric homes—builders are facing new challenges and opportunities. Aging infrastructure and rising energy costs are driving homeowners to look for smarter, more reliable energy solutions.
This course introduces the basics of solar and battery microgrids and how they can be integrated into new home construction to provide energy independence, backup power, and long-term savings.
Topics Covered:

Why Solar Now? – Understand the rising demand for electricity and why solar energy is becoming essential for modern homes.

What is a Home Microgrid? – Learn how solar panels or solar roofs, inverters, and batteries work together to create a self-powered home.

How Solar Roofs Work – Overview of solar roofing systems that combine aesthetics with energy production.

Smart Battery Backup – See how home batteries provide silent, automatic backup during outages and reduce reliance on the grid.

Designing for Energy Use – How heating systems and seasonal energy use impact solar system size and performance.

Financial Incentives – Learn about federal tax credits and how homeowners save money over time.

Construction-Friendly Installation – Explore how these systems are designed to fit into the building process with minimal disruption.

Why Builders Should Care  – Offering solar microgrids can increase home value, attract buyers, and provide a competitive edge.
